SPORTS MEDICINE ACUPUNCTURE® is an advanced training in the assessment and treatment of sports, work and orthopedic injuries.
MOTOR POINT or TRIGGER POINT ACUPUNCTURE- the insertion of an acupuncture needle into the motor point or trigger point of a muscle causing a fasciculation, which is a spontaneous involuntary muscle contraction and relaxation of muscle fibers.
In some states (not California) other professions outside of Acupuncturists call this
DRY NEEDLING.
ELECTRIC STIMULATION - Two needles in the muscle belly or effected tissue hooked to low level electric stimulation. E-stim acupuncture causes muscle fasciculation inducing relaxation, increased blood flow, anti-inflammatory, and revitalizing the effected area.
CUPPING- decompression of the fascia of the effected area to increase blood and lymph flow & reduce pain and inflammation. Usually causes bruising.
GUA SHA- scrapping the effected area in order to break the blood supply to scar tissue. Increases range of motion and overall function of the effected area. This causes red petechiae of the area scraped.
